Healing Your New Piercing: Aftercare & Healing Times
Getting a new piercing is exciting, but proper aftercare is essential to ensure smooth healing and long-term comfort. Following these instructions carefully will help prevent irritation, bumps, and infection.
Below is our recommended piercing aftercare guide, based on the instructions we provide in-shop.
How to Clean Your New Piercing
Clean your piercing twice daily using packaged sterile saline wound wash ONLY
Always wash your hands thoroughly before touching your piercing
Gently clean the area and dry thoroughly after each cleaning
❗ Avoid using alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, ointments, or homemade salt solutions — these can irritate healing tissue.
Oral Piercing Aftercare
If you received an oral piercing:
Rinse twice daily with an alcohol-free mouthwash
Rinse after eating or smoking
Maintain good oral hygiene during healing
Jewelry Care & Downsizing
• Every few days, with clean hands, check that the balls or ends on your jewelry are secure
Return to the shop for downsizing when instructed
Failure to downsize can lead to:
Piercing bumps
Excess irritation
Prolonged healing time
Downsizing is a critical step in proper healing.
What to Avoid While Healing
Do not submerge your piercing in unhygienic bodies of water, including:
Pools
Hot tubs
Lakes
Rivers
Avoid unnecessary touching, twisting, or playing with jewelry
Do not remove jewelry during healing
Estimated Piercing Healing Times
Healing times vary by location and individual:
Ear lobe: 6–8 weeks
Ear cartilage: 8–12 months
Eyebrow: 3–5 months

Even if a piercing feels healed on the outside, internal healing continues
